2nd Annual Miles and Margs Success

First of all, thank you SO much for all your kind and supportive words on my last post. I’m so glad I shared my story. It is amazing to me how many people can relate.

Saturday was the much anticipated 2nd Annual Miles and Margs down at Alki. It was an absolutely amazing turnout.

It was a cut back week for me, so I only had 8 miles on tap for my long run this week. My original plan was to head down to Alki and get a few extra miles in before meeting everyone. That plan went to hell when I made the oh-so-intelligent decision to get a little drunky drunk with my girls the night before. It was completely impromptu and ended up being SO much fun, but it did not set me up very nicely for a successful long run.

Instead, I decided to just get there when everyone else did, get a few miles in, and attempt my long run on Sunday.

The weather. Was. Gorgeous.

Seriously, how gorgeous is that view.

The girls all made it and we took off running. I ended up running with Dawn and Erin. We took it nice and easy which is exactly what I needed! After about 3.4 miles, we had finished our loop and we were ready for some margs.

How I was able to drink more, I have no bloody idea, but I couldn’t pass up the margs portion of miles and margs.

We all ate and chatted and did a big group introduction. It was such an amazing time. After lunch, we headed back outside for a group shot.

I was seriously amazed by the turnout. And I loved that I got to meet some people for the first time as well! It was such a fun event. This will definitely have to be repeated every year.

Last night, I tried my damnedest to get my 8 miles in. I had it all planned out. I would do 20×400 repeats with a 200 recovery. Add on a mile warmup and it would put me at just a little over 8 miles! It was a great plan… In theory.

My legs were absolute lead. It was hot. My head was just not into it. I’m sure I can come up with a million more equally pathetic excuses. I ended up doing 14x400s with 200 recovery and 1 mile warm up for a total of 6 miles. I will friggin take it.

That’s what I feel about my long run flop.

Miles for the week:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4 miles
Wednesday: 6.07 mile walk along Alki
Thursday: Strength training
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3.4 miles at miles and margs
Sunday: 6 miles worth of intervals
Total: 19.47 including walked miles

Not too shabby for a cut back week. This week I ramp up the mileage again.

Here’s to speedy runs this week!

Have you ever attended a blogger meetup?

2nd Annual Miles and Margs

It is almost that time of the year again! Almost time for our 2nd Annual Miles and Margs! If you are new to my blog or if you don’t remember, I blogged about the meetup in this post: Miles and Margs

We had a FABULOUS time going for a run along Alki and then refueling with margaritas! It was so much fun that it is imperative that we make it a yearly tradition. I know I am messaging this out SUPER early this year, but I wanted to make sure everyone got it on their calendars!

The deets:

Where: Run along Alki Beach in West Seattle followed by snacks/drinks/etc. at Cactus on Alki.

When: Saturday, May 4th (Let’s start Cinco de Drinko weekend off right!) – Run starts @ 10:00 am, Cactus starts at 11:00 am

Who: Any bloggy buds living in the Seattle-ish area that can make it out to Alki

At 10:00 am, let’s meet across the street from Cactus (2820 Alki Avenue SW, Seattle, Wa 98116) in front of the Washington Monument Replica. Yes, there is one. There is a Statue of Liberty replica as well.

Let’s plan on a 5-ish mile run along the beach path. It is pretty easy to extend the run for those of you who are speedy and want to get more miles in. For those of you who are speedy challenged, run with me! I will be taking it nice and slow. 🙂

We will do an out and back so that we end up right at Cactus when they open at 11:00!! The turn around point will be right around where you get on the Water Taxi.

There is a lot of free street parking in the area. If the weather is nice, it can get quite busy, so you might want to arrive a few minutes early just in case.

If you plan on going, comment here (or email me @ skippinginseattle@gmail.com) to let me know if you are running AND going to Cactus, just going to Cactus, or just going to run.

If you have any other questions, let me know!!!!

Like I said, I know I am messaging it out early this year. I will be reminding everyone of the event as it gets closer! Just make sure to get it on your calendars!!! 🙂

FroYo and New Friends

On Sunday, some of my fav local bloggy buddies and I decided to all meet up for run around Greenlake. It was a perfect day for a run. Sunny but not hot = perfection.

TriGirl, Lindsay, Rebecca, Ann Marie (TriGirl’s friend that doesn’t blog but really should) and I all got going on a 4 mile path that A set up for us. TriGirl and I are just getting back into the running game so hitting that 4 mile mark was super exciting for both of us!

After running, we did what is a necessity after working out… We got frozen yogurt!

It was awesome to be able to chat with other running enthusiasts. Poor hubs, bless his heart, puts up with all my fitness talk. Realistically I’m sure his eyes gloss over every time I mention PRs or Intervals or Fartleks. Ok, maybe his ears perk up when I say fartlek. Anyways, these ladies were so much fun to talk to. They were all so incredibly nice and I can’t wait to meet up again!

From Left to Right: Ann Marie, Lindsay, TriGirl, Rebecca, and ME!

And yes, my hair still doesn’t fit in a ponytail, so I ran with my hair half down like those annoying girls at the gym. Sue Me.

Loved loved loved meeting you ladies and I hope we meet up again soon. Like maybe Saturday at this ol thing?! 😉

P.S. This has been the most insane week ever at work. Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I hope things start slowing down soon!

Seattle Bloggy Meetup

First of all, I just want to thank Mel Tall Mom for hosting such a fabulous evening with such inspiring women. I am SO glad I went.

I arrived at The Old Spaghetti Factory just a few minutes before 5 and checked in at the front desk. I was the first one to arrive!! That is a big deal for this girl. I hate to admit it but I’m often late.

I waited out in front for a couple minutes and then I saw Run Zoë Run and 5 Miles Past Empty, and a couple of 5 Miles Past Empty’s friends start to walk up. Holy moly, Zoë’s baby is quite possibly the most adorable baby ever. She has such big beautiful eyes and she was SO happy!

We headed in and more and more people came. It was quite the turnout. There were over 30 people that showed up!!

[Some amazing ladies… Kerrie, Jill, and Mel]

[Jill and Me! We found out we are practically neighbors!!]

[This adorable thang ran her 2nd ever half marathon!!]

[Amanda and J (The amazing bib girly)]

Online Shoes HOOKED us up and donated all kinds of goodies.

[All the goodies!]

Seriously, they ROCK!! Shirt, water bottle, coffee mug, cute bag, etc!

Last but not least is my favorite part!

Kerrie made name tags that look like race bibs! How ridiculously clever is that?!?!

I had SO much fun and I am so lucky to have been able to meet these fabulous ladies. I can’t wait to run into them more in future races!!
