Nuun Giveaway!!

SOOO it is no secret that my all time favorite way to hydrate is with Nuun.

It seriously changed running for me. Gone are the days of muscle cramping and Gatorade induced stomach crampage. Yes, i am guilty. I used to hydrate with Gatorade. I have no idea how I ever endured the thick film left in my mouth after drinking Gatorade. So gross.

[Team Nuun Kids on the Block at Ragnar NWP]

On top of being a game changer for my long runs, I also have met such amazing people through this company. Between the amazing employees to the talented runners I had the honor of running Ragnar with, they have made me feel like a part of the running community up here in the Pacific Northwest.

As many of you know, Nuun came out with some new flavors recently. And OH EM GEE they are ridonkulously delish. Cherry Limeaid is my absolute fav, but Lemonade and Watermelon aren’t far behind.

A little tip… Watermelon is best served ice cold! 😉

Want to win a sampler pack of the new flavors? Nuun has graciously offered to give one of my readers a tube of each of the three new flavors!! Woot!

Weekend recap

Wow, what a great weekend. It absolutely flew by (but what weekend doesn’t?!). It started out with this happening…

Hell yaaaa!!! I just couldn’t stay away. This is my third year in a row running this race and I couldn’t be more pumped up for it.

Then this happened…

My singlet came!!! Wooooo!!! I seriously love it. Besides being slightly too big, I think it’s perfect! I can’t wait to rock it at the West Seattle 5k!

Then this happened…

Lemonade flavored Nuun accompanied me on a glorious 3 mile run. I was so dang schwety after. My legs loved it!

Then this happened…

Yep, I went on a long ass walk. I decided that I am going to incorporate some walks on what would normally be my rest days. My body may not be able to handle running every day but that won’t stop me from being active! Plus I got to see gorgeous views like this:

Amazing. Goodness I love where I live! AND I got to do it with one of my fav people ever!!

Add in some major plankage, ab work, and book reading and you have my kick ass weekend. So relaxing! JUST what I needed!

What was the best part of your weekend?

Five for Friday

1. Mr. Postman delivered some new flavor Nuun goodness to me yesterday!! I ordered a box of Watermelon and a box of Cherry Limeaid and ohhhh buddy, my taste buds were happy on my run last night.

2. Speaking of my run last night… It was one of those runs that makes you remember why you love doing it so much. I did intervals that absolutely kicked my ass. I was sweating up a storm and my legs were quivering and I loved every second of it. I did my intervals at about a 9:15 pace and recovered at about a 12 min pace. It was seriously amazing. I SOOO want to PR the shit out of my next race.

3. Speaking of racing… I signed up for the West Seattle 5k. I freaking love this race. It is a smallish, extremely flat run along Alki “beach.” Beach is in quotes, because let’s face it, this California native knows what a real beach looks like. 😉 This race currently holds my PR and I am friggin determined to crush the hell out of it.

4. My Nuun racing singlet is scheduled to be delivered today!!!! I have been anxiously waiting for it to come! I can’t wait to rock it at my next race. Doesn’t it just SCREAM PR?!

5. It’s not 100% yet, but I am pretty sure I am doing Rock N Roll San Diego again this year. I told myself I wasn’t going to. I wanted to make this a light running and racing year. But they just HAD to go and change the course on me. Now I HAVE to do it! I mean… I am pretty sure this elevation chart was MADE for me.

Mostly flat and a downhill finish?! Seriously? Sign me up! I will let you know as soon as I pull the trigger but I’m pretty sure it is going to happen. PLUS, hubs and I were wanting to get out to SD to see our fam too. So, it makes the whole thing that much more awesome!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you all drink some green beer this weekend! 🙂

Nuun Ambassador!

So, I never officially mentioned it on here, but right around Christmas time, I was asked to officially be a brand ambassador for Nuun!!! Of course, my initial reaction upon receiving the email was:

I am more than proud to represent this company. I truly believe in the product itself as well as all of the people behind the curtains. Before Nuun, I drank a 1/2 Gatorade 1/2 water concoction on my long runs. It was awful. Sure, it got the job done, but it was so dang sugary and left a gross film in my mouth. No bueno. Nuun solved all of that for me.

Leg cramping? Gone. Stomach issues from sugary drinks? Gone.

Sorry, I probably sound like a walking (or is it typing?) advertisement right now, but I am so dang excited to represent this company at future races. Ooooh and I’ll get to rock this bad boy soon!!! Woot! I preordered mine today! You can get one too here!!

Speaking of races… On a whim, I took advantage of a Zozi deal and signed up for the Valentine’s Day Dash at Greenlake this weekend! It is the same one I ran last year with TriGirl, Rebecca, and Ann Marie!

One of my coworkers recently started running and so I will be running with her to bring her across her very first race finish line ever!!! No PR attempt for me this time, but I have BIG plans for that in the near future! I can’t wait for my coworker to experience that runners high from crossing the finish!

When was your very first race? What distance was it?

Mantras and new flava flav!

I have so much to share with you guys! So, word of warning, this is probably going to be a bunch if word vomit.

As a lot of you know, I got the plague (okay, not really the plague, but close enough) after Christmas time. It left me completely bed ridden for over a week. Even after I could function, my energy wasn’t back, I had a severe case of man voice, and a horrible cough. Jump forward 3 weeks…

Last night, I finally braved my ‘mill. Granted, it was a super slow 2.25 miles but I did it. You have no idea how happy this makes me. Realistically, I probably could have started running again last week but my cough was still flipping annoying with any physical exertion, so I stuck to spin and strength training instead. The whole time I lusted after the cardio high that I only get from running…. And now, that high is mine once again! Wooooo!!!

Then tonight, I got together with my Fly Girls Lauren and Megan for Power Hour at Fly Wheel. The class was one hour long instead of the usual 45 minutes, hence the name power hour. The instructor was Barbara and holy moly she is no joke. LOVED this class.

Barbara had the most fantastic phrases to keep us motivated. For some reason, they really worked for me today. One of my favorites was:

If you aren’t challenging yourself, you aren’t changing yourself.

For some reason I just loved this quote. I need to remind myself this more often. Some workouts are going to be hard and some workouts are going to suck, but pushing through the difficult workouts is how we make changes happen. It is how we achieve our goals. It is how we realize our true potential.

Woooo that got a little deep.

One other ultra amazing thing that happened at spin, is that Megan brought Lauren and me samples of THE BRAND NEW NUUN FLAVORS!!!! They aren’t released yet, but goodness gracious, I hope they are soon. I tried Cherry Limeaid during spin. It is pure love. It actually has a little bit of caffeine in it which is always a bonus in my eyes. The more I drank it, the more I wanted to chug it, bathe in it, and insert an IV full of it. So friggin delicious.

The other two new flavors that I get to try are Watermelon (!!!!) and Lemonade!!! I will try one of them this weekend and report back.

[The contraband]

What mantra helps push you through tough workouts?

What Nuun flavor are you most excited for?

Ragnar Relay: $4!+ I should have posted

Ok, I swear I am ALMOST done talking about Ragnar. Bear with me.

You know how MTV always does a ‘$4!+ they should have shown’ episode at the end of the Real World season? Oh, I’m the only one who still watches that crap? Hmm… Anyways, we took SO many awesome pictures and there was just no way to fit them all into my recaps so I thought I’d do a ‘$4!+ I should have posted’ post.

These pics remind me of Barney from How I Met Your Mother. Often, people would try to capture candid photos of our group. I think I have camera radar though. And apparently I only have one pose too!

Tossing gummy bears in the air and catching them in your mouth is way tricky. I probably tried like 80 times. One successful attempt was caught on camera. The other successful attempt (ya, I think there were only two) was caught on video. I’ll put it on YouTube and upload the video soon.

We decorated the vans at Nuun headquarters on Thursday night. At this point, most of us hardly knew each other. Oh how fast things change…

Night time come ’round and we start acting like bulls and matadors.

And Kim showed us her serious baton twirling skills! She is so rad.

Megan snapped a few photos of me coming into the finish of my first leg! Photos complete with shot of Honey Buckets.

So there you have it! The $4!+ I should have posted!

Ragnar Recap Part 3: Boom you caught a Stacie

I left off with getting the most glorious 90 minutes of sleep ever. I am not even exaggerating, it felt like I got 12 hours. I woke up feeling so refreshed and ready to rock my most ridiculous attire yet. One thing is for sure, we were going to go out with a bang.

We make the 80s look GOOD!

Before we knew it, it was our turn to take over the glorious orange slap bracelet and bring this race to a close. All of van 2 decided that our cheering had to be dialed up to 11 for the last legs. WE NEED MORE COWBELL!

Jenny took off running on what we decided was quite possibly the most gorgeous leg of the course.

And we had BUBBLES!!!

Oh yes, I was the keeper of the bubbles! And when you have bubbles, you get AMAZING race photos like this one:

We screamed, we laughed, and we danced the hell out of ‘Ice Ice Baby.’

Then it was time to get decked out in my most absurd race outfit yet. Oh dear lord it was fabulous.

And then we danced some more…

Then it was my turn to bust out my final 5.8 miles.

Ya… About that whole running thing…

This leg sucked. Like major major sucked. My legs felt strong and my endurance was hanging in there but the super crazy mondo hills caused my back to spasm SO FREAKING BAD. My team was absolutely amazing. They leap frogged me the whole way handing me Advil and water and playing ‘Stacie’s Mom Has Got it Goin’ On’ (which seriously made me crack up by the way).

I tried my damn hardest to run up those friggin hills but my back just would not cooperate. I got so close to breaking down in tears of disappointment but my amazing team helped me through. Kim told me to walk the hills or she would be mad. Yes, mama Kim. So walk I did. As soon as it leveled off in the slightest, I ran my heart out to try to make up time. I was so close to the end, then I got stuck at a stoplight. It felt like I was there FOREVER! As soon as it turned green, and I took off toward the most glorious downhill finish ever.

I was DONE! My Ragnar job was finished!

Without fail, my team had the best surprise ever waiting for me.

Remember me mentioning ‘Seagull Fishing’ yesterday? Well, for those of you who don’t know (presumably all of you), Seagull fishing is where you lay on the beach with a towel covering you. You cover said towel in food. Seagull comes to eat the food… BOOM you caught a seagull.

Apparently I am the only one who has ever participated in such activities (to any PETA members, no seagulls have been harmed while seagull fishing). Well, my team decided to go Stacie Fishing. They knew EXACTLY what Stacie’s feed on: “Lemon Tea” which oddly resembles Red Hook beer. Hmm..

Kim laid on the ground, covered herself in a towel, put “Lemon Tea” on the towel and BOOM…

She caught a Stacie!!!

Best. Thing. Ever!!

We continued cheering our brains out for our final two runners. After hiding and throwing MORE gummy bears at Megan, we headed to the finish!! Megan came running in with Tyler and we all (Van 1 and Van 2) ran into the finish together.

NUUNKOTB babyyyy!!! After 32 glorious hours, we did it!

I can’t believe how lucky I am to have been able to spend time with these people. I absolutely adore my NUUNKOTB family and I am so anxious for our reunion. You ladies (and Mason and Tyler) are such fabulous people! Thanks for one of the most memorable experiences of my life.
