Last night, hubs and I went to a Seattle Sounders game with a bunch of people from his work. Holy Moly, that is a good time.
The Sounders are a professional soccer team. I don’t even like soccer and I ABSOLUTELY loved going to the game. I was kind of dreading it because I had a longgg day at work and all I wanted to do was curl up by the fire and read a book. I am SO glad I sucked it up and went.
The atmosphere seriously kicks butt. The whole crowd yells these chants the whole time. People are on their feet. It is wild!
Forgive me, soccer fanatics, because I have no idea what it is called… but every time the opposing team’s goalie would kick the ball, the whole crowd would yell “You suck, asshole!!!” It COMPLETELY caught me off guard the first time I heard it. It was a crack up! Terrible sportsmanship, but hilarious. I couldn’t believe that was something that everyone knew to yell! I mean, who the heck started that?! haha
The best part of all was that it was the 2011 US Open Cup Championship game (once again, I have no idea what that really means) and the Sounders were going for a 3-peat. After a scoreless first half, they completely kicked it up a notch and finally scores some goals! Final score was Seattle Sounders 2, Chicago Fire 0!! THEY WON! There was a trophy ceremony, confetti, fireworks, and a completely enthusiastic crowd!
People were yelling the chants the whole 3/4 mile walk to our car! I just love seeing a city come together like that.
Needless to say, if you are in the area when there is a game, SERIOUSLY go. You will not regret it. You don’t have to like OR understand soccer. You will still love it!
