RnR SD training: Week 5

This past week was a great training week. I posted some solid numbers. This is how it went down.

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 4 miles of hills (10:54 pace)
Wednesday: Ab workout
Thursday: 3 mile easy run (10:58 pace)
Friday: Rest
Saturday: pulled weeds = arm & leg workout
Sunday: 8 mile long run (11:26 pace)

You guys should be proud of me. I did BOTH of my weekday runs right after work! I was completely done with my workout by 7pm both days. It’s crazy how much you can get done when you aren’t waiting for your food to settle so you can work out. It was rad! Since hubs hasn’t worked out with me in a long time, I decided that I’m going to workout earlier now. Ahhh I am so excited.

I put off doing my long run as long as possible this past weekend. I spent the weekend cleaning with hubs so I was TIRED. Finally, at 9 pm on Sunday, I decided to git-R-dun. I almost stopped at mile 6 because I was just ready to be done but I told myself to go just one more mile. Then I hit 7 and decided I was too close to 8 to stop. In the end, I got 8 miles done in a pretty dang good time for me.

This week is going to jump up in mileage big time, so even though it is Marathon Monday and I really want to run, I’m using this rest day wisely.

This weekend was SO much fun! We decided to celebrate the fact that my husband is AWESOME with good food all weekend.

Saturday, we made the most delicious steaks with mashed potatoes, salad and WINE.

Holy YUM! Then Sunday we had Carne asada tacos.

20120416-191427.jpg

You can take the girl outta SoCal but you can’t take SoCal outta the girl.

Then we decided to be über classy and finish Sunday up with indoor s’mores.

20120416-191539.jpg

20120416-191550.jpg

It was fan-freaking-tastic. It’s a good thing I didn’t stop at 6 miles so that I could burn off more of the food I ate!

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend. Now, is it Friday yet?!

Birthday Success Part 2

Last nights workout:
1 mile on the bike before hubs hopped on to use it. 4 min with resistance at 5
Ran 2 miles in 20:50 (10:25 average).
Plank A Day

Last nights workout made me realize one thing. Running works COMPLETELY different muscles than biking. Damn, that 1 little mile was HARD! Pathetic, I know. I definitely need to ride more often. It worked my quads like alcohol and drugs worked Amy Winehouse. Too soon?

**********************************************

Back to the birthday festivities…

Saturday night, I made reservations at our FAVORITE restaurant… Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse! Let me just say this… not all Ruth’s are created equal. We go to Ruth’s in every vacation spot we travel to that has one. So far, the one in downtown San Diego is THE BEST. Vegas, not so much. The good news is that the one in downtown Seattle is a VERY close second. All it is missing is a view of the water.

I was a bad blogger and did not take any pictures at dinner. Shame on me, I know.

I love how they decorate the table with confetti for birthdays. The only thing that I have seen that is cooler is at Morton’s Steakhouse. They actually printed up menus that said “Happy Birthday Hubs” on it. Well, it didn’t say Hubs, it said his real name but you get the idea. Very nice touch.

After all the alcohol the night before, neither of us could stomach any at Ruth’s. It was kind of sad because their Pear Twist Martini is life changing. Seriously. If you haven’t had one, picture this:
butterflies and rainbows and unicorns

After dinner, we were going to see HP7.2, but decided that we wanted to go home and have an Entourage Season 7 marathon instead. We watched the. WHOLE. THING. I have to agree with the reviews. Season 7 was not nearly as good as EVERY other season of Entourage. It was kind of depressing. I am really hoping that they end on a lighter happier note with Season 8 a.k.a. The end of the show. I will definitely miss the guys when they are gone. Johnny Drama and Ari Gold = fabulous comedic entertainment.

Do you ever watch an entire season of a TV show in one sitting?
Dexter, Entourage, and True Blood. Every Time.

Just call me Martha

Saturday night, a big group of us gathered together to play a poker tournament over at cousie D’s friends house. There were about 15 of us! It was a great turnout.

I wanted to bring something fun to share with everyone, so I began scouring the interwebs. That’s when I stumbled upon a Malibu Rum Cupcake recipe!

Holy Yum!

20110628-055334.jpg

I followed the recipe almost exactly, except I left out the actual coconut. Me no likey!

20110628-055439.jpg

I will definitely be adding these to my ‘Must Make Again’ list.

20110628-055711.jpg

We also brought a bottle of rum to go with them! It was DELISH!

A few rounds of poker later, I lost all my money, was feelin prettyyyy goood, and rocked out in RockBand. All in all, a very successful night.

Now go makes those cupcakes. You’re welcome.

WTF Hot Chocolate?!

At work, we have these kick booty coffee makers that deliver a refreshing cup of freshly ground starbucks coffee by the push of a button. Much to my delight, they also dispense Starbucks Hot Cocoa!

20110622-083831.jpg

I have been having about one of these tasty things each day. I thought it was a sweet LITTLE treat, emphasis on the LITTLE!

I was curious how many calories were in it, so I did some googling. WTF Hot Chocolate!?!

20110622-084635.jpg

370 calories and 16 grams of fat for a SMALL treat?! You can get a subway sandwich for fewer calories than that!!

Needless to say, I am no longer drinking hot chocolate. I will stick with my cup of coffee and lots of half and half for a grand total of 30 calories, thankyouverymuch.

*****************************************
Yesterday, I did another strength workout. I don’t know why but it feels nice taking a tiny break from running. (My knee is still kind of annoying me)

3×100 flutter kicks
3×30 sec planks
52 leg raises on each side
50 side to sides
3×30 sec static crunch

Exciting news in the work out world. I will be sharing soon! 🙂 And yes, it does involve running.

******************************************

Just because I know you love seeing awesomely dorky pictures of me, I decided to whore it up for you. This is a night in the life of me, during the commercials breaks from The Voice.

20110622-085757.jpg

I think I have a cavity, but that won’t stop me from getting high on smarties. And no, I will not be looking at the calorie count on these. Some things you are better off not knowing.

20110622-085944.jpg

Smarties make me smart… And do sophisticated poses like this.

20110622-090024.jpg

Oh, Diet Coke… I love you and all your chemicals too much.

Who are you rooting for on The Voice?
I love Javier, but dang I can’t listen to Dia’s songs enough. SO ridiculously good.

What is your candy weakness?

Case of the Mondays

Wow, this weekend flew by. I almost forgot how much I usually depend on the weekend to get stuff done. I must sound like such a wimp to those of you who have been working full time, exercising/training, taking care of families, etc. It is a LOT of work! I definitely got too used to having all the time I wanted during the day to get stuff done. It is nice to be back into a routine, though. It makes me appreciate those moments on the weekend when I can just relax on the couch.

Friday night, hubs and I ordered pizza to be delivered to our house after work. MMMM greasy cheesy pizza. What diet? We had a relaxing night in after such a long week. We watched 500 Days of Summer.

500 DAYS OF SUMMER

Goodness that is such a great movie. PENISSSSSSSS! It is so clever and not your typical love story. I definitely recommend it to those of you who haven’t seen it yet.

Saturday we were lazy.

lazy day

And it was fabulous. I don’t think we even got dressed for the day until about 4pm or so. I loved every minute of it. I caught up on The Bachelorette, ANTM marathons, and movies that were on Encore.

I also researched treadmills until my brain was going to explode from stress. I hate decision making especially when it comes to buying expensive things. It stresses me out like no other. I REALLY want to just decide on a treadmill so we can just buy it and I can run, but it is so much pressure. I think I am going to have hubs decide on one for me! 😀

Sunday morning, Hubs and I went to brunch at a place called Circa in West Seattle. It is a great little restaurant that never disappoints.

Circa

I ordered a mimosa and Hawaiian French Toast. Ohhhh buddy it was DELISH! I ate the whole entire thing and I didn’t even feel guilty about it.

The rest of the day was spent cleaning house and doing chores so that our place looks half way decent during the week. It is amazing how two days at home turns the place into a pig sty.

What day(s) do you normally do your chores?

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

RnR San Diego Race Recap: The Expo and then some

This was the first race that I have been to that had a HUGE expo. My very first 5K was probably the closest to this, but most of them are usually just picking up bibs at the local Road Runner Sports. But not the RnR… this was on a league of its own.

I have heard that if you have been to one RnR expo, that you have been to them all, but with this being my first one I was so excited. My parents wanted to come along too, so it made it even more fun! It ended up being hubs, my parents, his parents, his sister, and a family friend… everyone except for hubs and my parents were running!

[My parents and me right before entering the expo]

The line was pretty short to pick up my bib, which was nice considering how many people were there. I picked it up and headed to the corral change booth. I was in an appropriate corral for my expected finish time, but I wanted to run the first part of the race with my mother in law and her friend (they were running the full marathon) and they wanted to go in an earlier corral. It actually worked out perfectly because it seemed like all the people in the faster corral were actually going the pace I wanted to go.

After changing the corral, I went and picked up my t-shirt and swag bag (10 cool point to the RnR for actually calling it a swag bag). THEN, it was time to shop!

I really wanted a shirt or sweatshirt to commemorate my first RnR. I am a sucker for mementos like that. After lots of shopping, I ended up getting a royal blue T-shirt that says Rock San Diego on it, a navy blue zip up sweatshirt, and OF COURSE a shot glass! 🙂 I was definitely a happy camper.

RnR San Diego Expo

After being camera whores in our new shirts, we decided to head over to the vendor area. I was kinda over it at this point, mostly because I was STARVING so I only grabbed a few free samples. It was so much fun though. I am so glad that we were all able to go to the expo together. It definitely got us pumped up.

After the expo, we headed to In-N-Out for burgers. Sweet Jesus I miss In-N-Out. There is no other place like it.

in n out

Then, we headed over to my parents house where most of my family came over to see us. It was awesome being able to see everyone even though we were only there for such a short amount of time.

After that, we headed to the BEST Italian food in San Diego… Mona Lisa Pizza. It was a 45 minute wait which was kind of brutal, but it was SO worth it. I carbo-loaded on garlic bread, spaghetti and one slice of pizza. I didn’t want to have too much cheese and risk having that upset my stomach on race day. It was so hard to limit myself to the one slice. There is no other pizza like it. MMMM.

After we were done eating, we headed back to hubs parent’s house to hit the sack. After all, we had an EARLY wake up call to look forward to!

The Skinny on My Fat

This whole move to Seattle has not been nice on my waistline. Before we moved, we decided that we needed to eat at all of our favorite restaurants before we left. I’ll give you a hint, that did not include fruits and veggies.

Instead, we indulged on many many helpings of In N Out:

20110527-082116.jpg

Wayyy too many servings of Mona Lisa Pizza:

20110527-082259.jpg

Oh and we can’t forget the Mexican food!! I ate my weight in California burritos:

20110527-082457.jpg

And then there is Tio Leos. We probably ate there 5 times in our last two weeks in San Diego.

20110527-082704.jpg

Thanks to all of these indulgences, not nearly enough exercise and way too many margaritas (wait, is that an oxymoron?) I have gained back a whopping 10 pounds! Needless to say, my running has suffered with the extra weight. The longer distances feel harder, speed feels harder, and I feel out of breath faster.

Being a week away from the Rock N Roll Half Marathon, I should be in tip top shape. However, I am finding it ridiculously difficult to drop this weight. Since I am currently not working, the snacks are there all day long calling out my name.

It would be rude not to respond!!

Yes, I am running more now than I was while I was working, but it really isn’t enough. The worst part is that my motivation is minimal. Every once in a while I get a burst of motivation, but 5 minutes later I snap back to reality and realize that the bag of candy sounds wayy better than a salad.

Ok, so here is the deal. Hubs turns 25 this year!! It’s a big one! In order to celebrate, we are planning on going to Vegasssss!

That gives me a little less than 2 months to get this bod bikini ready!! Gahhh bikini… Scary thought. Maybe I should take advice from Bob.

20110527-085630.jpg

Ok, time to get serious. I am going to drop this extra weight and tone my abs again. Oh and F you muffin top, we are no longer friends.

20110527-090154.jpg

Gotta go get my run on.

Happy LONG weekend everyone!!
